Fuel systems only need you to perform a small bit of maintenance.
The fuel system is amazingly robust, you don’t have to touch it but every 10-25,000 miles. But you should make sure to touch it at least that often. Inspect the fuel lines and gaskets regularly, feed your vehicle good gas, and keep the dust out of it. The fuel supply system is the heart of the vehicle. It supplies the blood to the engine, and if handled carelessly, can result in catastrophe.
Please remember to replace the fuel filter and check the fuel lines for obstructions, kinks, and pinches every 10,000 miles. These 2 items can alleviate many fuel delivery issues quickly and easily over time.
Having problems with your vehicle, and you suspect the fuel system. That’s fair, but remember, it could also be the ignition system, or the engine itself. Here are a few checks, this list is by no means complete.
Make sure you have sparks at the spark plugs.
Ignition system troubles end here, but can go all the way back to the key.
Make sure the timing belt(s) or chain are connected.
These keep the top and bottom of engines in time.
Inspect engine for compression leaks - no gaping holes in hoses, fittings, o-rings, sensors and other connections. Compression is required for ignition, and holes don’t help.
If you have confirmed these items, and you have replaced the fuel filter, AND the vehicle still won’t start, perform the 6 fuel pump tests.
